Barbecue Grill - Simple and Sustainable Grilling.
In this project, I test the limits of the material - Ceramics as well as try to design a product that fills a market gap for a high-end Barbecue Grill used at home.

A good number of people would host garden parties and use a grill on a regular basis. This means that the grill being sustainable and durable would be a great feature.
The size of the grill should grill food that can serve at least 7-10 people at once.
As grills are used for garden parties I preferred prioritizing function and aesthetics. Hence, the materials can be rot-iron (with a brushed brass finish/powder coating) and ceramic.

Is Ceramic a Suitable Material?
Is Ceramic a Suitable Material?
Is Ceramic a Suitable Material?
Yes! Absolutely. It is a great material for a barbeque grill for a lot of reasons. Some of them are -
Once heated, it takes a lot of time to cool down. This is great for fuel management as well as helps in a consistent flow of heat for grilling in winter!
The glaze of a ceramic product leaves no stain. Cleaning this pot will be effortless! No need to worry about spilling and use all types of sauces, oils, and kinds of butter without worry!
As the material is firm and makes it easier to maintain the grill it will last not only for years but for decades. This makes it a sustainable choice.

The size of the product for a ceramic application was a huge challenge. Due to Covid-19, this design could not be made into an actual product. But, with good validation of people working with the material, this project ended up being empowering. It helped me push my limits and think beyond a particular size that is "safe" for the ceramic material as well as use it for an unconventional application.
This design was appreciated a lot by my mentors at UID and with their help an application for a patent for this design is filed and submitted!
